WooHoo!!!! We might have a bathroom soon....
The builder called and he is going to start on our bathroom this week, hopefully he can get a lot of it done before we go up this coming weekend. While I have been okay using the porta potti,an actual flushing toilet will be a big step towards being a real place to live rather than 'camp out'... We are going with pine boards on the walls, putting in slate tile on the floor and using a galvanised stock tank as a bath tub...it should be interesting. |

Nice to use at night and no lights with a sky full of west Texas stars. Get in to get wet---out to soap up---bucket to rinse off--get back in to soak..(keeps water cleaner for the critters) In summer very nice---winter not so nice! (quick) Good luck-- running water and a bathroom is the first major milestone ... |
Re: WooHoo!!!! We might have a bathroom soon....
No...the stock tank is going to be INSIDE....we are having a drain put in and basically have it converted into a large bathtub.
|
Re: WooHoo!!!! We might have a bathroom soon....
Is this an indoor or outdoor bathroom? I don't know, but I wouldn't think your stock tank would keep water hot very long....
Why did you choose that style? Price? Style? BTW, Congrats on the bathroom promises. I hope they come true very soon for you! *and soft TP to go with it!* |
Re: WooHoo!!!! We might have a bathroom soon....
It will be in a wooden frame,we most likely will insulate between the tub and the framework with spray foam.
We chose it because....it is kind of cool...no other reason really. |
Re: WooHoo!!!! We might have a bathroom soon....
Well, there's cool & there's practical. Let us know how it works! You may be a trend-setter!

Re: WooHoo!!!! We might have a bathroom soon....
The downside is it takes a LOT of water to fill...and it IS a little impractical but then so are bathtubs in general, few people take baths anymore.
Will keep y'all informed. |
Re: WooHoo!!!! We might have a bathroom soon....
Rubbermaid makes a pretty nice stock tank that would double easily as a bathtub in pinch....wouldn't cool down too quick. And as a stock tank, they beat a galvanized one all to pieces.....I've had a couple of the galvanized ones rust out, never a problem with the plastic ones.

Re: WooHoo!!!! We might have a bathroom soon....
Well we are going to go with the galvanised...if it rusts out eventually so be it.
We tried it out one weekend, dragged it outside and heated up water on the turkey fryer and half filled it....quite comfy for two....although I would suggest filling it with hot water and THEN adding the cold, especially if you have a 300' well as that water was COLD. |
Re: WooHoo!!!! We might have a bathroom soon....
If you empty it out, as a bathtub, a galvanized one would likely last a long time. If you leave water in it, as a stock tank....it's actual intended purpose, they don't.
Go figure...... My guess is the zinc is about 2 microns thick, and just doesn't hold up....but I had 3 of them rust out in a couple years before I switched to the Rubbermaid ones. |
Re: WooHoo!!!! We might have a bathroom soon....
We talked this over with the builder and he thinks we would need to dry it out after use....which is not that big a deal really.
Might have to add some type of non skid coating to the bottom as well. That is kind of odd about the tanks rusting if water stays in them....typical modern day stuff, useless for it's intended purpose over any length of time. |

To add to that zinc is a soft metal and it is fine and good for protecting metal. But and this is a big one, because it is soft it will wear off rather quick and expose the steel or tin underneath. If after use you dry it out it may last a long time if not rust will set in around the edges if you build it into the bathroom. Just a thought. Edit:I started this before your last post. The coating ideal is a good one. And yes they will rust, the zinc will slowly dissolve into the water. especially if you have metal to metal contact and the metals are different from each other. |
